Goal Setting Tips

The only goal setting tips I can give are the ones I use. I have always been someone who lives by lists and I write out my goals several times a year.

However when New Years comes around is when I sit down and really think about what I am doing and where I want to be.

I normally use these goal setting tips:

First look at what you want to achieve and more importantly why you want to achieve these things. I think the why is very important because when you are struggling for motivation if you take a look at why you set those goals in the first place it could be the very thing to get you back on track.

Do not just state what you want to achieve...go into very minute detail, almost like giving it a life of it's own. This will help you focus on your goal more and exactly how you will achieve it.

It is not enough to say I want some extra cash...you must say I I want to make an extra $500/month and I will do this by (set out steps you will take to increase earnings and by when you want to achieve it) or your goal might be to lose weight, but again that is not specific, you must state how much you want to lose, by when you want to lose it and how you are going to take steps towards losing it.

I also use good visuals for my goals and normally will put everything down on paper, or in this case online and I will also incorporate them into a vision board.

I am always positive about the goals I set and if I think the ones around me will see my goals as silly or impossible I will not show them.

If I write them down I know I can achieve it, I do not need any negative nellys around telling me I can't do something!

So here I go...this is my first time online goal setting!

In 2011 I want to:

1. Focus much more on my websites!

Now this is too general, number 1 no no for setting goals...so more specifically, for the 5 websites I currently work on I want to add 4 content pages/month which will roughly equate to writing a new page/week/site. So 5 pages per week. I know it can be done!

For my new natural herbs site, which only has 2 pages at the moment, I want to add 100 (well 98 to get it to 100) pages in the next 6 months...so end date June 30th.

Through working on all this content I aim to increase my traffic to all my websites which will in turn increase my earnings. I aim to increase earnings by $500/month by June 30th.

In order to do all this I must work at improving my number 1 weakness...PROCRASTINATION! I always find something else I would rather do than what I have to do!

2. Buy a house

In order to focus on all of this and overcome procrastination I will focus on a goal I would like to reach by the end of 2011 which is to have enough money for a deposit on a house for my new hubby and I to move to.

3. Improve health

When I speak about improving health I mean losing some weight, improving fitness and improving my diet.

I would like to lose 5kgs by June 30th (just in time for summer). I chose 5kgs as it is more or less what I have put on over the indulgent christmas holidays.

I will help that goal along by focusing on training a bit more.

I will train at least 3 times/week and I already know how...we got the new Xbox Kinect this christmas in my household and I will play the fun games with my family that get you moving!

I think I will also buy the game Shape Up (I think) and use that to track my fitness levels etc.

With regards to diet, as I was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) I will stick to a diet to control the MS symptoms. As some might know MS is incurable, however it is certainly a disease that can be well controlled through diet and I can't think of any more motivating reason to stick to a diet than this!

So now that I have given you my goal setting tips and shown you my own goals it's your turn :)
